Perhaps for the first time in many years, the new year very definitely will not be steady as you go. Brexit has brushed away certainty and more and more of us are secretly crossing fingers behind our backs.
Time, perhaps, to become more responsive to change, however it shows up, and turn outcomes into opportunities whatever their complexion?
The coming year will merit attention for a few issues that Informanagement will be involved with, especially the provision of informed commentary. The major items for business new year resolutions include:
- Compliance with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that becomes a legal requirement from 25 May 2018.
- Compliance with the Criminal Finances Act 2017 – this is already required, from 30 September 2017, but many businesses are still unaware of its scope and their obligations to comply.
- VAT registered traders will need to ready themselves for the impact of HMRC’s Making Tax Digital obligations that are due to commence April 2019.
Our regular news content includes updates on all these topics. We have also covered off training tutorials to keep staff on their toes.
The GDPR change is especially relevant for professional firms. Larger clients will be seeking reassurance that their advisors are GDPR compliant. Without this confirmation, they will likely move to a firm that is compliant.
